Robert Hartley ACII and co-founder at the US-based insurtech Dinghy , says AI is not a prerequisite for VCs considering investing , but that there was a time not long ago when it was viewed as a ticket to raising funds . He explains , “ There was a wave a few years back , of everyone saying they were ‘ AI / ML / blockchain ’ fintechs and asking for money . Thankfully the noise seems to have dropped , but certainly people were using these terms to try and open doors with investors .
“ But you won ’ t attract better investment by doing this . The good investor is the one who buys into your vision and wants to support you . If you dupe them into thinking you have something that you don ’ t they won ’ t be a good investor partner .”
Today , Hartley believes insurtechs that don ’ t use AI or ML have just as much of an opportunity with investors as those who
