Founded in 1969 , by Adrian Dalsey , Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn , DHL began operating one of the first international door-to-door express delivery services , not long after Neil Armstrong became the first man to step on the moon . The three men ’ s business idea , ‘ altered the global economy ’, forming ‘ the cornerstone for global operating enterprises ’. The founding of DHL represented the creation of the international air express service industry , which rapidly transported documents and cargo papers by plane . In 2002 , DHL became a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Post .
