Zilch launched in September 2020 with a model that generates revenue from merchant commissions and advertising rather than consumer fees. The company reached unicorn status within 14 months, becoming what it terms the world’ s first ad-subsidised payments network. Users can make purchases using immediate payment with up to 5 % cashback, or spread costs over six weeks or three months without interest charges. The platform now processes over 10 million monthly payments and has generated over £ 4bn in sales for retail partners while saving customers more than £ 750m in fees and interest since launch.
