DIGITAL ASSETS
Ripple has closed a US $ 500m strategic investment at a US $ 40bn valuation from institutional investors including Fortress Investment Group, Citadel Securities, Pantera Capital, Galaxy Digital, Brevan Howard and Marshall Wace.
The funding follows the company’ s US $ 1bn tender offer at the same valuation and marks a period of growth for the payments firm as it expands beyond its original focus. Ripple is a financial technology company that offers crypto solutions for businesses. Ripple Payments uses blockchain to make cross-border payments faster, more transparent and widely accessible.
Ripple Custody offers customers a secure way to store and manage digital assets. Through Ripple Prime, the company offers a global, multiasset prime brokerage for institutional customers. Ripple’ s stablecoin RLUSD and the cryptocurrency XRP are leveraged across these solutions to make traditional finance more efficient.
Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, says:“ This investment reflects both Ripple’ s incredible momentum, and further validation of the market opportunity we’ re aggressively pursuing by some of the most trusted financial institutions in the world. We started in 2012 with one use case – payments – and have expanded that success into custody, stablecoins, prime brokerage and corporate treasury, leveraging digital assets like XRP. Today, Ripple stands as the partner for institutions looking to access crypto and blockchain.”
