Mastercard’ s findings predict that everyday purchases like groceries, toiletries and subscriptions are expected to be the first categories delegated to AI agents.
Agnes adds:“ The pace of adoption will also depend on the kind of purchases people are making. We expect consumers to hand over the more routine and mundane purchases such as grocery orders and subscriptions first. More personal purchases, where shopping is part of the enjoyment – such as fashion or holiday planning – will take longer to delegate.
“ Ultimately, the value customers get from an agentic payment in terms of time saved, lower prices and convenience will be what accelerates the adoption curve most quickly. Consumers will vote with their wallet based on their buying experience.”
