BRAZIL : A BURGEONING FINTECH MARKET
Today , Brazil has emerged as a burgeoning fintech market , by transforming the lives of its unbanked population , pushing for supportive regulations and championing a techsavvy younger generation . Brazil is home to over 700 fintech startups , making it Latin America ’ s largest fintech ecosystem . The country ’ s fintech sector has seen remarkable growth , with investments reaching US $ 3.8bn in 2021 , a 200 % increase from the previous year . This growth has been driven by the Central Bank of Brazil ’ s implementation of open banking regulations and the introduction of PIX , an instant payment system that processed over 1 billion transactions within its first year . Brazil ’ s large population of 214 million , coupled with smartphone penetration exceeding 70 %, has created a fertile ground for fintech innovation . The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated digital adoption , with 60 % of Brazilians using digital banking services by 2021 . Key areas of growth include digital banking , with Nubank becoming Latin America ’ s largest digital bank , serving over 48 million + customers .
