THE PAYEUX TAPESTRY
Created with artist Mia Hasson, the Payeux Tapestry visualises the shift from human‐led shopping to agentic commerce, where AI assistants routinely choose and pay for products on our behalf. It reimagines the medieval narrative form of the original thousand-yearold work for the modern digital age, mapping how consumers, merchants and payment networks will interact when agents can read reams of data, verify claims and scan reviews in seconds before completing a purchase. Its scenes echo the Bayeux original’ s focus on conquest and trust, but in the new version, the idea of a“ conquest” is commercial – AI agents gaining the authority to spend, negotiate and enforce budgets set by their human principals.
The piece is both art and a strategy tool, designed to help business leaders, regulators and consumers grasp the scale of change that’ s coming. Exhibiting at a time when the Bayeux original returns to England for the first time in almost a millenium, the art’ s message is a visual representation of just how this could be one of the most significant shifts in retail and payments in decades.

In tandem with Agent Pay, Mastercard has introduced Agent Suite to help merchants and collaborators in embedding agentic AI within their systems, enabling them to design, evaluate and launch tailored agents.
Back in August, Mastercard selected the UK to unveil Proto Agentic Sandbox, providing a space for businesses and their collaborators to explore, test and validate agentic AI applications before deployment. This includes testing product discoverability by agents, scaling reliable payment models for consumers, ensuring dispute resolution frameworks function effectively at scale, as well as several other key areas.
